Riley went to China on a business trip a few months ago and returned with enough to stories to fill a month of Sundays. He also came back with a little pair of jade earrings for his little lady (that’s me!). There are many superstitions attached to the wearing of jade but my very favorite is the one Riley brought back with him from all the way across the world. For centuries, the Chinese believed that as long as you wore jade, the gods would protect you from any fall – physical or otherwise. A lovely thought for a not always lovely world.
And yes, I understand that the gods of wind and fortune are figments from another time and place. But then I wear my little earrings and even though I know it isn’t so, I feel protected.
